Mitchell Gilbert Impresses in Rd 1 of the WSK Master Series
Kosmic Kart Racing driver Mitchell Gilbert achieved a respectable fifth place finish in round one of the WSK Master Series in Siena, Italy between 26-29 August, despite suffering some engine troubles during the course of the weekend.
With fierce competition from 46 international competitors in the KF2 class, Mitchell was able to achieve two exceptional first place finishes during two of the weekends’ heats. An engine issue in the remaining heat left Mitchell with a twelfth place finish, putting the young Australian driver in seventh spot on the grid for the pre-final.
Starting from the dirty side of the track meant Mitchell was in a vulnerable position for the start of the pre-final, though he was able to gain one place through the course of the race finishing in sixth. Mitchell again performed well in the Siena final, gaining one position and finishing the race in fifth place, handing the 16 year old 19 valuable championship points. <--!more-->
WSK Master Series 2010
The WSK Master Series 2010 kicked off last weekend at the Siena Karting Circuit in Italy. The Master Series is a 3-round championship that runs from August to October at 3 tracks in Italy running the 60mini, KF2, KF3, and KZ2 (shifters) categories. The first round had several drivers familiar to the South-East-Asian region in the KF2 and Mini 60 categories.
Australian driver Mitchell Gilbert who started his karting career in Malaysia put in a good performance in the KF2 category finishing the final in 5th place, with enough pace to go a few places higher.
The mini 60 category saw a bunch of drivers from Malaysia/Singapore. James Pull, Daim Hishammudin, and Max Fewtrell all made the trip to Italy to take part in the competitive field of 66 drivers! None of the 3 managed to make the final (34 out of the 66 drivers make it to the final stage), but all gained tremendously from the experience. Fewtrell was the closest to to getting into the final having missed out on a possible top 34 placing because of carb problems forcing him to sit out a heat. After the heats the 3 drivers were classified in 45th (Hishammudin), 48th (Fewtrell), and 62nd (Pull). Fewtrell had the best single heat finish with a 14th, while Hishamuddin and Pull both managed a 16th place.

Euro Challenge Competition not Dampened by Stormy Weather
Round 1 of the Rotax Euro Challenge for 2010 returned to the popular “drivers’” circuit of Sologne Karting, Salbris, France last weekend where the weather played a very significant role in the results, but failed to affect the spirit of the highly competitive racing. At almost 1.5km in length, the rather technical track that’s been a selected venue for the series on a handful of occasions now played host once again for 180 competitors coming from five continents of the globe including several new nations being represented in 31.
