JRP Energy Racing Team driver Mitchell Gilbert competed in his first British event this weekend, finishing ninth in the fourth round of the TVKC Club Championship at the PF International Kart Circuit on Sunday 4 April.
Over 120 drivers competed during the weekend in a three heat – one final format with Mitchell going head to head with scores of British drivers who have spent their lives competing at the Lincolnshire based circuit. Despite struggling with a lack of grip on a slippery track surface and a completely different race format the Australian driver was still able to lap within two tenths of a second of the race leaders.
Mitchell will now return to PF International for additional testing before the CIK-FIA European KF2 Championship Western Region Qualifications taking place from 29 April – 2 May.
Fraser Sheader, Mitchell Gilbert’s Manager, said:
“This weekend was disappointing but Mitchell’s speed potential was still very good. We have a lot of work to do before the Euro Qualifications at the end of the month. I’m still confident however that our speed will be there when it matters.”
Mitchell is now focussing on the next WSK Euro Series event in Zuera, Spain taking place from 15 – 18 April. Back on familiar tyres and track, Mitchell has his sights set on a podium finish.
