John King at the Front
John King drove the GP10 a dream début on Saturday, taking pole position easily after a last minute decision to change to slicks on a still damp track. In heat 1 John led from start to finish with team mate David Turner close behind, giving the GP10 a debut win.

In the 1nd heat and pre-final, the JKK team cruised to easy 1-2 finishes with the more experience John playing rear gunner.

In the final, John led from the start and initially pulled away but the GP10 hadn’t been tested in such hot conditions and the rear end grip was too high and he slowly fell into the clutches of Roland Nizam who’s front braked Birel was working better in the conditions. John held on until lap 21 but then Roland forced his way past with a desperately late braking effort. John chased hard but couldn’t retake the lead.

David Turner
David finished 3rd, right behind his team mate.

Despite being disappointed at being pipped in the final, John was very happy with the GP10’s performance thru the weekend. “We got caught out a bit with the grip in the final – we hadn’t tested the GP10 on such a hot day. But, it performed fantastically all weekend and I’m sure getting an overall victory won’t be long. What I’m really looking forward to is a wet race – the GP10 was fantastically good in the wet testing we did and then in qualifying on a damp track 🙂
