Water deal gives Malvern his last gasp chance of karting glory
A lack of funds forced Formula A star Scott Malvern to quit karting – but thanks to a bottled water company heads back on track, and out to win this weekend’s (17/18 August) Kart Masters Grand Prix.
The 18-year old’s career has been revived by One water. One is the brainchild of the charity, Global Ethics – who use the profits from the sale of the bottled mineral water to install desperately needed water pumps in Africa. Scott’s clearly excited about the deal, These water pumps are actually children’s roundabouts that draw water from wells. As the kids play on them and spin them round, clean water is pumped from the ground into tanks that the whole community can use. With a supply of fresh, clean drinking water these kids can go to school instead of having to walk for up to 5 hours to collect it.
Scott is One’s first sporting ambassador – but joins stars like Dr. Who David Tennant, former Casualty star Claire Goose and The Royle Family’s, Sue Johnston. Scott chuckles, “One is promoted by some of Britain’s best and most popular actors and then they choose me to help them. It’s a really big honour. I just wish I could have whatever powers Dr. Who’s Tardis on my kart. I’d win the race before everyone else has started – by time travelling!”
As all drivers know, maintaining the fluid levels in your body is the key to a great performance and One water is also a healthy alternative to sugar-based soft drinks. Scott adds, “Thanks to One, I’m not just helping myself but also the kids in Africa. During the Kart Masters weekend, I’m going to be giving away free bottles of One and hope to inspire as many people as I can to ask their local supermarket to stock it. Please feel free to visit the Project One awning and try some.”
Come Sunday afternoon, Scott’s hoping that, like his sponsors name he will be the Kart Masters number 1.
